Job description
Panhandle Geotechnical & Environmental, a member of the MCS Family of Companies is searching for a full-time testing technician for our Scottsbluff, Nebraska office. The company is a full-service environmental consulting firm with extensive experience conducting environmental consulting solutions, environmental investigations, underground storage tank investigations and remediation geotechnical investigations, and material testing solutions (through our on-site AASHTO-certified lab).
We are currently seeking a motivated testing technician with a willingness to be a strong team player. Work will also include field-based testing and data collection for geotechnical investigations. A love for the outdoors, the ability to diagnose mechanical issues, and a highly-detailed recordkeeping process is crucial.
General Responsibilities:
Perform field and/or laboratory testing, observation, and inspection of construction materials (e.g. soils, aggregates, concrete, asphalt, and steel). Communicate with project manager, engineering technicians, client representative, contractor’s representative and others as applicable regarding the construction site, project requirements, and testing, observation, and inspection requirements and results. Transport material samples with associated identifying documentation to the laboratory for further testing and analysis. Tabulate, prepare, and submit data and observation in the form of written and digital reports as work is performed for daily transmittal to the Project Manager. Maintain and clean equipment, vehicles and work areas. May assist with scheduling and dispatch of Technicians to project sites. Adhere to strict safety standards.
Essential Roles and Responsibilities:
- Under close supervision of higher level technicians or staff professionals, assist on tasks and perform basic testing and observations duties.
- Provides clear documentation of findings and results.
- Communicates information to Project Manager and discusses accuracy of data in preparation for submittal.
- Submits documentation and communicates results as directed by the Project Manager
- Will be placed in a progressively increased role of training and responsibility in work assignments.
- Maintains assigned equipment.
- Follow safety rules and practices and other safety requirements for all projects. Perform pre-task planning prior to executing work. Report any safety issues or concerns to management.
- Be responsible for maintaining quality standards on all projects.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Obtain ACI certification within 90 days of hire.
- Successful completion of related internal safety certifications.
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.
Preferred Certification:
- Obtain Nuclear Density Gauge certification within 6 months of hire.
Job Type: Full-time
Salary: $15.00 – $18.00 per hour

Environmental Sampling & Drilling Technician

Job description
Environmental technicians execute drilling, investigation, and remediation plans for environmental projects for the firm. Use excellent customer service skills, establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other employees, contractors, clients and all members of the general public. Performs routine semi-skilled and technical environmental testing, collection and observation work for a variety of projects, including but not limited to drilling, testing, sampling, investigations and documentation. Compiles information and prepares testing reports as required. Efficiently operates drill rig and other complex vehicles and equipment. Performs work in accordance with safety policies and procedures. Maintains a variety of detailed logs and records related to employees, work assignments and testing activities. Performs sampling and testing services as needed. Troubleshoot and repair remediation systems and components.
Expected responsibilities include:
- Assist with environmental remediation investigations
- Operate motor vehicle to assist in carrying out the business of the company
- Collects material samples & data according to specifications and certifying agencies
- Keeps detailed records of all work activities and submits reports on a daily basis
- Inspects to assure compliance with local, state or Federal standards
- Troubleshoot and repair systems in the field
Qualifications
- Graduation from high school or GED program (required)
- Continuing education in environmental, drilling, construction or related field (preferred)
- Familiarity with Word, Excel, e-mail and internet (required)
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record for company vehicle (required)
- Ability to obtain a Class A Commercial driver’s license (CDL) (required)
- Ability and willingness to obtain 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER training within 60 days of hire (required)

Majority of work schedule will be Monday through Friday, not necessarily during normal business hours. Some night and/or weekend work may be required, especially during summer months. Travel expected approximately 75% of work time; approximately 50% overnight travel expected.

Environmental Professional (Geologist, Engineer, Scientist)

Job description
Position supports environmental projects in our Scottsbluff, Nebraska, office. The selected candidate may have responsibilities that include Phase I and Phase II due diligence reports, desktop reviews of historical site data, field visits to document environmental conditions at sites, support site assessments and remedial investigations, report preparation and project administration assistance. Duties may also include review and interpretation of environmental data, data validation reports, data tabulation and report writing. Field efforts may include environmental compliance support, due diligence, storm water inspections, groundwater sampling, monitoring well installation oversight, project oversight, document research, report preparation and data management.
Specific job responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Conducting environmental field work, including soil logging, groundwater sampling, fluid level gauging and oversight of field surveys, drilling, well installation, development operations, and utility clearance for intrusive operations.
- Field document preparation, field data collection, processing, and interpretation.
- Supporting office tasks, including data analysis and report preparation.
Previous experience with site investigations and assessments, Phase I ESA (ASTM) and Phase II site characterizations, field sampling, investigation and remediation at leaking UST sites, remediation, and regulatory compliance is desirable. Experience in drafting, writing, groundwater/soil sampling, well logging/installation is a plus.
Strong analytical and organizational skills, and excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) are required. Effective multi-tasking and self-prioritization abilities are necessary. Must be highly motivated and client-focused, must exhibit attention to detail and a focus on quality, and must work well in a team environment. Must have experience writing technical papers or reports.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree (or advanced degree) in engineering, geology, biology, chemistry, environmental science, soil science or related field (required)
- Experience in environmental consulting or related field (preferred)
- Ability and willingness to obtain 40-Hour OSHA HAZWOPER training within 60 days of hire (required)
- Prior experience in soil, groundwater or surface water sampling, sample coordination with analytical laboratories, or storm water inspections (preferred)
- Experience in investigation and remediation at leaking underground storage tank sites pertaining to soil and groundwater contamination (preferred)
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (required). Proficiency with GIS and ACAD applications is a plus.
- Excellent writing, communication, and analytical skills
- Willing to work flexible hours and be available for travel on an on-call basis
- Position requires a Motor Vehicles Record background check. A valid driver’s license and the ability to become certified to drive company vehicles is required.
