Environmental Technician/Driller, Scottsbluff, NE

The MCS Family of Companies is searching for a full-time environmental technician/driller/driver for our office in Scottsbluff, Neb. The company is a full-service environmental consulting firm with extensive experience conducting environmental site assessments, remedial design, waste management and remedial actions for both public and private entities.

We are currently seeking a motivated field technician with a willingness to be a strong team player. The successful candidate will perform a wide variety of environmental work on sites across Nebraska, Wyoming and Colorado. Work includes installation of wells, operating drilling equipment and commercial driving. Work will also include field-based testing and data collection for geotechnical investigations. A love for the outdoors, the ability to diagnose mechanical issues, and a highly-detailed recordkeeping process are crucial.

Duties will include but not limited to helping on a drill rig, able to lift and carry 75-pound augers and bags, moving drums weighing almost 500 pounds. The successful candidate will be working with hazardous and non-hazardous waste. May have to operate a shovel for extended periods. Strong analytical/organizational skills and excellent communication skills are required.

Must be willing to work flexible hours and travel on an on-call basis, as this position will travel approximately two weeks a month within the service area.
A valid driver’s license with Class A CDL and an acceptable driving record for company vehicles is required. With the ability to acquire N (Tank Vehicle) and H (Hazmat) endorsements within 30 days of employment. A pre-employment drug screen is required and will be subject to random drug screens.

Engineering/Material Testing Internship

Overall Responsibilities

Engineering/Material Testing Interns will work on construction projects under the supervision of seasoned professionals. As a full-service consulting firm providing solutions in the western Nebraska and eastern Wyoming area, the company will provide a wide range of work experience to the successful intern candidate. Experience could include solutions at airport, street/roadway, development, water/wastewater and surveying projects.

The internship is a 12-week paid summer program. We offer in-depth work experience on real client projects in a supportive and collaborative environment. Strong analytical and organizational skills and excellent communication skills (both written and oral) are required. The abilities to manage multiple tasks and self-prioritize responsibilities are necessary. Must be highly motivated and client-focused, and must exhibit attention to detail and a focus on quality. Must work well in a team environment.

Key Areas of Responsibility

Maintain good working relationships

  • Desired majors: Civil Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Construction Management
  • Current enrollment in engineering, geology, environmental science or similar degree program (preferred)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (required). Proficiency with GIS or AutoCAD applications is a plus.
  • Willing to work flexible hours and be available for travel on an on-call basis.
  • Excellent writing, communication, and analytical skills.
  • Position requires a Motor Vehicle Record background check. A valid driver’s license and the ability to become certified to drive company vehicles are required.
Work Environment

Indoor – 20%, Outdoor – 80%

Indoor classified as protected from the elements; may or may not be climate controlled.

Outdoor classified as subject to rapidly-changing or challenging environments, (including wind, rain, snow, etc.) and uneven terrain.

Work Schedule Majority of the work schedule will be Monday through Friday, not necessarily during normal business hours. Some weekend work may be required, especially during the summer months. Travel expected approximately 75% of work time.
